New Pickup

I'm new to the forums and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've played 8 years or so just recently started playing heavily electric. I went from rarely using any pedals or amplification to using it basically every day. I'm a bit of a tech junkie now. I bought a new Mexi Strat last August and everything on it is completely standard. I want a new pup setup-something that will give me a bit more sustain and a little more crunch in my tone. As much as I research I can't figure out what I want. Any recommendations? Three new pickups? Just a bridge pickup? I'm an amateur at the electronics aspect so keep that in mind. I play through a Fender blues Jr. and a Vox AC15CC1 if it helps.

What type of music do you lean toward? This is a huge thing to consider before you buy new pickups. Replacement pickups are not just made to sound better over stock pickups sort of say. Rock & metal players will want a certain type of pickup for a strat & blues, jazz, country players will want other types. If you like blues, you may not like a pickup that is more suited for a heavy rock player. And if you're a country picker, you may not like a pickups more suited for Jazz. That's very important. Just as much as what the pickup can do compared to what you have already.

How does one go about buying a Mex Strat?
Is it intentional or just the way it works out?

I play mostly modern rock (chili peppers, sublime, oasis, etc.) and some classic rock. I bought the Mex strat because it was much cheaper than American made and I've heard good things about them.

I guess that my question was ...
Do you walk in and say show me some MexStrats
or
Look for the low{non-squier} price tags?

Hey Thom...

Look at the Headstock, front and back. It will tell you where it is made on almost all the models.
