12 String....

I'm getting a 12 string for Christmas, and I want to know how the hell do you play chords on one?

You play them just like on a 6 string--you just have to press down two strings that are close together--and strum as usual.

It's a bit different feel to it--and I prefer open chords to barre chords because the open strings resonate with the fretted strings.

Some things will work a little differently than on a 6 string--but with time & practice it will come--I have a 12 string and I love it.

Single notes are actually have a greater difference from 6 strings than chords do.

Enjoy!

Yep. Play it has you would a 6 string. The strings are "doubled up" and pretty close together. It's easy but feels different.

I saw a B.C. Rich 10 string guitar once and wondered the same thing - how to play it like maybe it was strung some different way but no - the 10 string neck was just a 12 string without the bottom E and A strings doubled. The extra four strings terminated on the headstock and the adjusters were on the bottom edge of the body beyond the bridge. The one I saw was a neck through made of Koa. I wish I had bought one of those before they became so rare and expen$ive. There's also a double neck 16 string based on the same Rich Bich body.

I've tried those 10 strings--they're kind of cool.
