In your opinion, whats a good half stack?

Im looking at different half stacks, and all the options are crazy. Who needs 6 channels and things like that? I need a couple of channels, and some thick distortion. Im thinking of either a Marshall DSL 100, a Carvin V3, or a Mesa Boogie, or something along those lines. The music I will be playing, although I hate the term, would be stoner rock, so I would prefer something with a naturally thick and sludgey sound. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if I know what you mean by "sludgey sound", but the DSL is a great half stack. The clean/crunch channel has a wonderful full sound, and is what I use most. The higher gain channel can be set to anything between mild high gain and blistering metal. Personally I like a 4x12 with Celestion Vintage 30's. I've never used a Carvin. The Mesa is known for a good, but different, high gain sound, but IMO you get a much better clean sound from the Marshall. It's really up to personal taste in what kind of sound you are looking for.

how about an orange rockerverb head with matching cab ? i they do a 50 watt head with built in reverb , valves are 4 6v6 power valves , 4x ECCC83 and 2x ECC81 in the fx loop, it will take i cab at 16 oh or 2 at 8ohm each .
a beast of an amp with great build quality and features , check it out i think you might have found what you're looking for!

I feel every guitarist should own a Marshall stack just once...you'll learn the virtues of a quality combo.

I enjoyed both demo clips.
The first one when he switched to a tele.
Made me want to peddle a cow and get a Marshall.
Wife wouldn't like that....

Im playing a 30 watt Marshall MG. If I decide on the Carvin, I guess I just order it from them directly. Other than that, GuitarCenter or craigslist.

Ive seen the V3 Carvin for about $900 if Im not mistaken. In which case, I probably am. The DSL 100 Marshall is about $1200, so Id like to stay in that neighborhood.

This post is kind of old already so you've probably already gotten something. If you have, please share with us what it was & how it's working out for ya'!

Anyway, I would suggest an all tube amp if you've never had one before. You should be able to pickup a good one in your price range especially if you seek out something used. Defenityly try out Fender & Marshalls for sure. These are the classic tube tones that everyone has emulated for years. Try to base it off your personal influences that you have & what they use for amps & tube types.
(6L6's, EL34's, 6550's, EL84's, etc)

Everyone should at one time have owned a nice tube amp at least once in their lives if they love playing guitar!
